Jibber Jabber

Hudson loves to talk these days. In fact, we couldn't keep him quiet during sacrament and Sunday School. It was pretty loud but I guess he just felt like he needed to be heard!! I love it! Mike says just wait til he is a teenager and talks back to me....I can hardly wait!

Look at me, Ma!!

Apparently, Hudson loves to perform for the camera. He will roll over whenever I get the camera out but otherwise, he just grunts and moves around on his belly. Its actually pretty comical!

Here is one where he was just tuckered out and didn't quite want to complete the roll!

Zonked

Last night we had FHE on enduring to the end. But I guess Hudson just couldn't quite make it!

Royal Victory

We had the chance to go see the Royals play the Yankees with some friends last night. It was awesome! We were hoping to see history with A-Rod hitting his 500th homer but unfortunately, or I guess fortunately for KC fans, the Yankees didn't even score. I think they had been holding out all week for us to come see them win since KC had lost every game so far in the series! They beat the Yanks 7 to nada! Pretty sad that even though the Yankees got shutout, they still have scored 70 runs in the past 7 games!! That, for all you non-baseball fans out there, is incredible! Hudson was having a blast and even got a commemorative first baseball game certificate!

A-Rod was trying pretty hard to hit number 500 and the Royals were doing everything to stop him. He actually got "beaned" by the ball in the 6th inning and looked like he was out for the count but he got back up and took his base!
Hudson fell asleep during the game and woke up with the look like what am I doing here? And then he was zonked out like a light after that! He slept through the cheering of the home run and the fireworks! Of course he woke up right before the game was over and didn't fall asleep until the drive home around 11. Little boys his age should not be up that late!!
We had a great time though and were glad to go even though we were all hot and sticky after it was over from the humidity! I don't think I could ever get used to that!

Hot off the press...

Ok, this just barely happened and being the proud mother I am...I have to post it!

I got out the camera just to let everyone see how much Hudson grunts on his belly. He is getting better at being on it since I have been trying to do it more regularly. Its like it finally just came together the last day or two. Well anyway, while I am recording him, he turned over on his back. And then while I was typing this he did it again so I went in there and he did it a third time! It was awesome!! So here is a video so everyone can enjoy it along with us!!

Here I come to save the day....

Hudson was feeling very "superheroish" today! So we decided to take a few shots of him. Its so funny when he holds his head up, he grunts so he kept grunting while we did this and then he spit up on Mike...hmmm, maybe that is some sort of superhero power that we are unaware of!

Gonna go fishin'

Thought I would post this in honor of my last job! Love the fish on his rear!

Squeals

Today has been one of the laziest days ever! We have been working on putting pictures up and just hanging around the house. Actually its kind of sad, but I don't think I have left the house for like 2 days. I guess that is what happens when you have a baby and its humid outside!

Tolls and fines

The only bizarro thing that really happened to us was on the way home. We were following the directions that mapquest gave us. We ended up driving up to some bridge and noticed there was like a booth at it, kind of like when you go camping into parks. So of course, we have to pay a dollar to go over some random bridge! We figured we should make the best of it and take a picture of it and to the side. It really was pretty! It was over the Missouri River I think.

I definitely couldn't go without mentioning the stoplights in Nebraska. I just think they are so odd! They are sideways. But then you will drive to the next stop light and it will be all vertical like they are other places. I don't understand it at all!

This is just a shot of Hudson today in his "Little Sport" onesie. He kept covering the writing up though so we basically gave up. He had slobber on the front anyway, so maybe its better this way!
I forgot to write this the other day but when we went to Missouri, there was road construction and there was a sign that said "Be kind to road workers, $10,000 fine if you hit one of them" Mike and I were busting up! It was so random I didn't get my camera out in time!

Kanesville, NE

We visited the Kanesville Tabernacle where Brigham Young was sustained as the next prophet there. The building was built in 21 days by about 200 men. It was made out of a wetter wood that actually shrinks so eventually the building was condemned but the town had it rebuilt out of the same type of wood but it is actually on a jack system so they can use the jacks to lower the main beams so that the roof doesn't get pushed off again when the wood shrinks. Kind of interesting... They had the sweetest missionary couple there. The Sister just loved Hudson and held him for a minute. I figured it was good for him to have a surrogate grandmother for a minute since I know he must be missing his real ones!!

Omaha and the trail

The city of Omaha seems really cool. We didn't get a ton of pictures of the downtown part because I was driving and I didn't get Mike on the job of taking pictures soon enough but oh well. Life probably will go on just fine without them!! We went and saw the Winter Quarters Temple and the Mormon Trail Center. The temple is just beautiful and actually has a cemetery nearby of saints. There is this great statue of a couple who buried their child and look like they are walking. The missionary told us that Pres. Hinckley had the statue set so that they would be walking towards the temple. Its pretty cool.

Hudson in his stroller just having a great time and glad to be out of the car!! Of course this is me in front of the statue at the Mormon Trail Center.

The Trail Center was cool and had some interesting stuff about the Saints that I didn't know about. They really had to make quite the sacrifices. Its pretty amazing all that they went through.

Alma Mater

Mike got his master's degree online through Bellevue University, which just happens to be near Omaha, NE. We never thought we would actually set foot on the campus but since we moved out here, we figured since we were so close, we had to take a trip up there. The campus is actually very pretty and has some very nice new buildings. Mike thought it was cool that he can now say he has been there! Side note, ate at Fazoli's...man I love that place! They changed their menu but they now have the best pizza. Who knew??!

Just being modest

Hudson just loves his baths. He was being so cute in it last night too so we took a few pictures. He had a little bit of a hard time on the way home from Nebraska because I think he was sick of being in the car so when he was so happy during his bath, we both were like camera time!! Mike strategically placed the washcloth in one of these pictures so Hudson could be a little more modest for the camera!!

Topeka Happenings

We had FHE with some friends from the ward last night. They have 5 girls (one who is 3 days older than Hudson). They are so cute! Hudson and her were checking each other out big time! They showed us just how great FHE can be with kids so that was a lot of fun!

We also have met a few more law students and are having dessert with one of them tonight. Should be fun! We are excited that Mike has met a few that are actually first years like him and look forward to meeting more...somehow they keep getting a hold of us though so that is great. Mike plays basketball with them on M, W and F so he loves that!

Our stake is having their Pioneer Celebration BBQ on Saturday...more and more stuff to do! Its awesome because it gets us out of the house and getting to know more people. We just can't believe how much there is going on with the church here. They have so many more activities than we ever did in Boise. Guess its just different everywhere you go...

Way up somewhere in MO

We decided to go see Adam-Ondi-Ahman, which ended up being a bit further north than I figured but it was absolutely beautiful. The pictures don't even do it justice! We missed out on going to the Amish town nearby. I was so bummed to find out we were so close to it and missed out! I think that would have been awesome!

So we headed back on our way home to Topeka after that but there are a few noteworthy things from the trip that I would hate to forget!

  • The longest street name we saw was Higashimurayama Avenue in Independence.
  • Saw a storm stoppers van in Leavenworth where apparently there was a huge thunderstorm warning...they were holding strange instruments out the window and the sky was turning black. I was getting a little freaked out!
  • Had to pay a toll to drive on the freeway which is actually kind of expensive
  • Saw the Topeka Capitol Building at night because I took the wrong exit, but it was all lit up and beautiful

We had a blast! We can't wait until our next adventure which is going to be this week to Nebraska! Longer trip but at least we get to see new things! Plus, Hudson sleeps pretty good in the car so it will force a long nap upon him!

Far West

We went on some serious back country roads to get to Far West. There was a few times where I was almost sure we were in the middle of absolute nowhere!! I couldn't believe that people actually live out there, so far away from any sign of 2007. Its seriously so surprising to me. But Far West was beautiful. There are 4 cornerstones there and a rock monument thing. It was great to see.

As a sidenote, who knew there were leaves this big???
